Understanding Toy Safety (Part 1)
Course detail

Developed specifically for publishing staff this really is an essential course for anyone working with children's books and toys.

Toy Safety legislation is complex but our course makes the topic accessible and is suitable for those who are new to this area or have limited experience.

The course will help you understand how children interact with your products and how to ensure the product complies with the applicable legislation and carries the appropriate warnings for the intended age.    We give an overview of European and international toy safety legislation, with special emphasis on the chemical requirements within the European Directives, and highlight the obligations of everyone within the supply chain.

You will find out how the labs test your products according to the target age and market and become familiar with reading test reports.

Illustrated throughout with samples and case studies, we will help you understand and identify potential safety issues in your products and take the appropriate action.

Who is the course aimed at?
For anyone new or with limited experience of working with children's books and toys.
  • Get an overview of current European and international Toy Safety legislation and understand your legal obligations
  • Understand how toy safety relates to your children's books and toy products
  • Gain insight into how children behave and how that impacts on the safety of your product.
  • Understand when to test your product and the types of tests that the lab carries out
  • Learn how to apply the CE mark and use the correct warnings

I just wanted to thank you for your really wonderful and inspiring seminar about Toy Safety. I must say I was a little sceptical that I would get something out of your seminar that would make the flight to Oxford worthwhile. But now I know: it was worth every mile!
